Lunch time Concert at Christ Church, Bristol.

Wednesday 28 August 2002 1:10 PM

Christ Church is on Broad Street, near the Corn Exchange and Bristol Bridge. On the facade there are two clock-work "Quarter Jacks" wearing natty red coats and blue breatplates. They mark time by striking the bells with their hammers.

For the first time in the history of the lunch time concert series at Christ Church the audience asked for an encore. So Yuki obliged with "Rhythm Booge" by Albert Ammons.

Yuki wishes to thank the director of music at Christ Church, Jonathan Price, for all of his help.

On The Sunny Side Of The Street

My program will consist of works from the great German composers, J.S.Bach and Beethoven. I feel my spine straightening with respect when I face the works of these two composers. I can see clearly how they thought carefully when writing each piece. Bach and Beethoven remind me that all composers racked their brains to put just one note on the page. None of notes in the music is unneeded, every note has meaning. That reminds me of the simple but important basis of performing. Not to bluff, not to show off, but to make sound from my heart. To be true to their work, I face them ernestly with my whole heart.

Lastly, I shall round my recital off with a happy tune for summer time!

I would be delighted if you could come to listen to me, and share the great legacy which they left for us.

Yuki
